Symptoms You are Pregnant

Pregnancy test is the best and sure shot way of knowing if you are pregnant. Pregnancy is marked by some common symptoms but there is no hard and fast rule that these will be exhibited by all the pregnant women. Some women may exhibit some of these symptoms. A pregnancy test will allay all the doubts relating to pregnancy. There should be a basic knowledge of pregnancy symptoms so that one can deduce the result before doing a pregnancy test. Learn more about pregnancy symptoms.

Getting to know whether you are pregnant is believed to be quite easy as well as baffling, as the case might be. Roughly speaking pregnancy has a host of common symptoms, then most of the can also be identical with certain other diseases and in some women, some of these symptoms might not simply appear. So the first thing to do when you find or ‘feel’ that you are pregnant is simply do a pregnancy test and allay all doubts. Given below are a few common symptoms that women experience during the early stages that is, within a few weeks following conception.

The Breasts Become Tender and Swollen

Breasts can provide one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. The woman can experience a change in the texture and feeling in her breasts which is basically caused by the hormonal changes that occur after conception. They feel tenderness and a tingling sensation and often these are accompanied by a sore feeling as well. The breasts also feel a lot heavier and fuller.

Bleeding and Cramping

A small amount of spotting and vaginal bleeding is pretty common during early pregnancy. This is also known as implantation bleeding, that is, the fertilized egg implants itself onto the walls or the inner lining of the uterus which results in the shedding of the inner muscles. This happens within 10-14 days after fertilization takes place. The bleeding is not at all akin to the normal menstruation cycle as it is much lighter in colour and the duration is just for a couple of days at the most. The woman also experiences cramps in her abdomen just like her usual menstrual cramps.

Fatigue

This is another early symptom of pregnancy. The woman feels tired and fatigues as her progesterone levels surge. Even if someone takes high doses of this hormone, she or he can doze off to sleep. There are also other associated reasons for feeling fatigued – the blood sugar levels rise and a blood pressure falls thereby inducing a dizzy feeling. The body also begins to produce more blood thereby sapping the body of its usual energy level.

Nausea

Popularly known as morning sickness, this is not necessarily accompanied by vomiting. It is considered to be a typical symptom of pregnancy and this queasy feeing can occur either during the daytime or at night and within a couple of weeks after conception. It is caused due to a sudden surge in the estrogen levels which causes the stomach to empty itself very slowly. The woman also becomes extremely sensitive to smell and odours related to cooking or food aroma, cigarette smoke and perfume.

Aversion or Craving for Certain Food

Aversion or Craving is a sudden and surprising development in pregnant woman as they tend to dislike or take a liking to certain food that may or may not have been their earlier choice. Usually these changes are noticed during the first trimester and are known to have been caused by the dramatic hormonal changes.

Headaches, Constipation, Mood Swings and Rise in Body Temperature

Due to the increase in blood circulation, the woman can experience mild headache. Then as the food passes very slowly through the intestine, there can be constipation. The woman can feel highly emotional which is also attributed to a flood in the hormonal levels. The basal body temperature increases right from ovulation till the time of her next period date.

These are just symptoms and it is advisable to confirm the pregnancy as early as possible so that prenatal care starts early too.
